The other day?was my husband?s birthday. Our original plans were ruined due to the weather. Since we had no place else to go, and he did take the whole day off from work, we ended up at the mall. We spent four hours at the mall. Needless to say I don?t want to see the mall again for a long time. For the record we have one of the largest malls where I live (four floors). It?s easy to spend a few hours there, especially if you cover all four floors.
I?m not much of an ?in-person? shopper. I don?t mind goin window shopping at the mall or NYC, but I prefer to shop from the comfort of my own home.
I get so excited around the holidays when my mailbox is busting open with catalogues from all of my favorite stores and online businesses. I find it both fun and relaxing to sit on my couch with a pile of catalogues and pick out things I want to purchase for family and friends for the holidays.
There are a few ?flaws? to my system. First and foremost all that wasted paper is not good for the environment. The catalogues could be seen as unnecessary since most companies have all the products available on their websites.
Here are some interesting facts about junk mail, which includes catalogues.
? 5.6 million tons of catalogs and other direct mail advertisements end up in U.S. landfills annually.
? The average American household receives unsolicited junk mail equal to 1.5 trees every year?more than 100 million trees for all U.S. households combined.
? 44 percent of junk mail is thrown away unopened, but only half that much junk mail (22 percent) is recycled.
? Americans pay $370 million annually to dispose of junk mail that doesn?t get recycled.
? On average, Americans spend 8 months opening junk mail in the course of their lives.
When I read facts like this it makes me feel REALLY guilty that I enjoy catalogues so much.
Another ?flaw? is that often I have too many catalogs and I forget where I ?dog-earred? a gift idea. Or someone would accidentally throw the catalogue into the recycle bin or the kids would use if for a project.
I know I can shop directly on a company?s website, but I really like catalogues. They highlight new products, sales, discounts and more into one neat little package. I much prefer catalogues. For me they are a lot easier to browse through then looking around a website.
Thankfully there is a new Catalogue app from TheFind.com.
The Catalogue App by TheFind.com is a free and new way to browse through all your favorite store catalogs available for iPad, Kindle Fire and Android (large screen) phones.?
At any time, there are roughly 95 catalog merchants featuring 175-200 issues inside the app including fashion, beauty, home, kids and more.?
Unlike traditional catalogs, Catalogue consumers can pull together their own personal favorites from various brands into one location, check local store availability, take a peek at the retailers sale emails and, ?using Camera View?, can even see how an item would look in their own home.?
Catalogue also features store email that allows the user to obtain the most recent deals and promotions put out by the brand. News and upcoming events are also collated conveniently inside the app. Here the user can find the best deals and discounts without having to clog their regular email account with unwanted spam.
I have been playing around with the Catalogue app on my Kindle Fire for about two weeks now. In fact I think it?s my biggest distraction when it comes to getting work done. I can literally browse through the Catalogue app for hours if I didn?t have so much work to get done.
By the way, I?m sorry about the poor quality of the photos. It?s hard to take photos of the Kindle Fire screen without a glare from the camera so I had to use my cell phone camera instead.
At first I thought the catalogues would be for places I?ve never heard of or would shop at. I was pleasantly surprised to find catalogues from Crate & Barrel, Best Buy, Williams-Sonoma, Lands End, Sears, Blair and so many more brand names. There are plenty of catalogues from companies I?ve never heard of either. That is fine with me because its fun to explore new catalogues.
I hope more catalogues sign on to the Catalogue App, especially before the holiday season. I could do all my shopping right from my Kindle Fire.
I love how easy the app allows you to scroll through the currently available catlogues to find the ones you want to explore. Once you find a catalogue you want to look into simply tap on it and it opens up. From there you can browse through the pages with the swipe of your finger, similar to browsing through a paper catalogue. You can zoom in and out to get a closer look at the product or in my case to read more about it (I need bi-focals and I refuse to get them because I don?t want to admit I?m getting older ? LOL). You can also get an individual view of each product (rather then view the entire catalogue page). This way is much easier on the old eyes. Ha Ha.
When you find items you like to purchase you can simply visit the catalogues website and find the item number and place the order online or call the toll free number (most catalogues have them).
There is a way you can mark off products you want to order later in time (similar to ?dog earring? a catalogue page or adding a sticky note). I haven?t been able to figure that feature out yet.
Another feature I really like is the ability to search for specific things. I was looking for some wall art with butterflies on it for our bathroom. Using the Catalogue App I did a search for ?butterfly art? and found DOZENS of places that sell butterfly art. The app shows you an image of the product, the title of the product, price and where the product is sold. I found a really nice one at HSN. When you click on the product you like you can pull up the product description, a larger image and of course the price. If you like the product you can visit the company?s site right there from the app and it will bring you the website directly to the page where the product is sold so that you don?t have to go searching for it on the other site.
The Catalogue App?s search option also shows you places near where you live that sell the product you are looking for. Not only that it tells you what store you can find it in and how many miles from you home the store is located. It also includes the stores address and phone number too.
There is also an option to share ?finds? with family and friends on Facebook, Twitter and e-mail. For example, if you knew your sister was looking for a Dora the Explorer backpack for your niece and you found one on the Catalogue App you could easily e-mail the product information to her directly from the app.
I am loving the Catalogue App from TheFind.com. You can find just about anything you are looking for using the application, shop from your favorite stores and browse dozens of catalogs all from the comfort of your home or on the go.
The Catalogue App from TheFind.com is FREE to download and use. You can also register to receive e-mails with sales and discounts from your favorite retails, or use the app without registering.
You can find the app on iTunes or at the Amazon app store (for the Kindle). For additional information please visit www.TheFind.com/Tablet.
